This Ultra-Creamy Chipotle Ranch is a Smoky, Spicy Twist on the Classic

You guys love it when I remake classic dressings with Greek yogurt – like my herbaceous Greek Yogurt Ranch and rich and garlicky Greek Yogurt Caesar (close your eyes and taste, and you’d never know they’re not the real deal!). So, to all the mayo haters, this easy homemade chipotle ranch dressing is for you. 💜

It has all the classic ranch flavor you love, just amped up with smoky chipotle peppers for a southwest-inspired twist. Using Greek Yogurt instead of buttermilk or mayo adds an irresistible creaminess and subtle tang, perfectly balancing out the spicy kick of the peppers.

This chipotle ranch is my go-to dressing for a Weeknight Ground Chicken Taco Salad, but don’t limit yourself to just salads! It also makes the perfect crema sauce to drizzle on tacos, and it’s an epic dip for pizza or wing night. Adjust the texture with a splash of water to make it suit any meal!

This easy homemade chipotle ranch recipe comes together in 5 minutes, pairs with everything, and beats store-bought any day.

Key Ingredients

An overhead shot of ingredients displayed in various dishes on a wooden board atop a white marbled surface: Greek yogurt, limes and lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, chipotle peppers, cilantro, dried dill, garlic powder, and paprika.
You’ll use classic ranch dressing ingredients like tangy Greek yogurt, dried dill, and apple cider vinegar, then add a southwest-inspired twist with lime juice, canned chipotle peppers, and fresh cilantro.
  • Use a Greek yogurt made with 5% whole-fat or at least 2% low-fat to get the richest and creamiest texture (comparable to buttermilk or mayo!).
  • Canned chipotle peppers in adobo are the base of flavor in this dressing. 🌶️ They’re smoked jalapeño peppers packed in a tangy, garlicky, tomato-based sauce, and have a subtle heat without being overly spicy. You can find canned chipotles in the Latin or International aisle of most grocery stores.

How to Make the Best Chipotle Ranch Dressing or Dip

The best thing about this homemade chipotle ranch recipe is that it’s easy to whip up any night of the week. Simply toss everything in a bowl and give it a mix – it’s ready in 5 minutes, no blender or food processor required.

Whisk together Greek yogurt, finely chopped chipotle peppers, cilantro, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, fresh lime juice, and a splash of apple cider vinegar until smooth.

The chipotle ranch will be pretty thick – the perfect consistency for dipping. If you prefer a pourable sauce or dressing, simply add a splash of water or an extra spoonful of adobo sauce until it’s as drizzly as you like. Ideal for salads or bowls!

🔥 If you love heat, add more peppers! For a milder dip or dressing, use a few spoonfuls of the adobo sauce – you’ll still get all the smokiness, just without the spice.

Serving Suggestions

The possibilities for Greek yogurt chipotle ranch go way beyond taco night.

I love it as a quick dressing for fresh salads and grain bowls, especially ones loaded with grilled veggies, barbecue chicken, or taco-inspired toppings. The smoky richness complements fresh ingredients really well, making it also perfect for coleslaw, sandwiches, wraps, or even a pasta salad.

It’s also great as a homemade chipotle ranch dip for pizza, fries, quesadillas, crispy chicken wings, or a party veggie platter. The thick and creamy sauce stands up well to these hearty game day dippers.

This twist on ranch is SO easy to make and stores well in the fridge for up to a week – perfect for meal prep!
