aloha! i’m actually currently headed home to minneapolis from hawaii (which has me about 99% heartbroken…). we spent the first few days with my grandfather on molokai (after our trip got off to a slightly unexpected start), & we finished the week in honolulu by ourselves.
i’m still deciding whether i’ll do a post about hawaii, since we shared so much of our adventure already on instagram, & since much of what we did this year are things i shared in my pwwb hawaii series last year (you can check that out here, here, here, & here), but we’ll see!
chris stayed behind in honolulu for a work conference this week (tough gig, huh?). he’s going to meet me in milwaukee this weekend for my bestie’s wedding.
life is seriously busy…but life is so, so good.
& when life gets busy, i always turn to my favorite easy recipes. it’s funny, but something about knowing you’ll be coming home to make a tried & true recipe in your own kitchen is just comforting. one less thing to think about & one less decision to make…it’s just a sure win.
& that’s totally how i feel about these strawberry pb&j protein smoothies.
i’ve been meaning to share this recipe with you forevvvver. it’s one of my favorite breakfasts, & based on how much you love my mocha protein smoothies & my bulletproof coffee protein latte, i think you’re going to LOVE these strawberry pb&j protein smoothies, too.
they’re beyond simple: throw a ton of strawberries into a blender with a cup of milk (or almond milk, if you’re into that kinda thing), some peanut butter, your favorite vanilla protein powder (i’m obsessed with this one), & a handful of oats.
when it comes to peanut butter, i like to use a powdered peanut butter like pb2. powdered peanut butters are made from peanuts that are dehydrated & pulverized into a fine powder. they tend to have significantly less calories, fat, & sugar per serving than a normal peanut butter, but they’re still packed with good ol’ pb flavor. you could also swap out with any nut butter to make these paleo & whole30 friendly. up to you…make it your own!
the milk & the vanilla protein powder make these smoothies suuuuuuper creamy (like, we’re taking ice cream levels of creaminess). the berries, peanut butter, and the oats come together to make these smoothies taste just like a pb&j.
easy, healthy, creamy, & delicious. does it get much better than that?!?
plus, not gonna lie…these strawberry pb&j protein smoothies feel like a #treatyoself moment because they totally taste like a strawberry milkshake.
healthy milkshakes for breakfast?
- 1 cup milk (dairy milk, nut milk, soy milk - whatever works for you!)
- 2 cups strawberries, frozen
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (use your favorite!)
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter (or nut butter of choice)
- Combine all ingredients in a blender & blend until smooth. This smoothie is thick & creamy, but add a splash of milk if you need to thin it out at all.
