porter cold brew iced coffee is a rich & creamy iced coffee cocktail perfect for springtime & summer weekend brunch vibes! the intense coffee flavor of cold brew coffee meets its perfect match in the slightly sweet & roasty flavors of dark porter beer. finished with a splash of cream (or two!), porter cold brew iced coffee will be your go-to coffee treat this summer!two years ago, when chris & i moved to minneapolis, we quickly discovered that the dreamy stars hollow-esque neighborhood we moved into had one serious flaw: a major lack of restaurants with liquor licenses.
now, it’s not that we neeeeed booze everywhere we go, but it is pretty fair to say that coming from milwaukee, the idea of not being able to just pop into a restaurant for a quick cocktail was a bit of a foreign concept to us.
that isn’t to say that the restaurant scene where we live isn’t amazing. it really, really is. there are acclaimed local gems tucked into every corner of our neighborhood & the surrounding area. they do a fabulous job curating excellent wine & craft beer selections & some even try to beef up their bar programs with non-spirit cocktails. but all of the charm of our darling little neighborhood comes with a something left to be desired when it comes to actual, real-deal cocktails.
sometimes a sake mary or a wine cocktail just isn’t gonna cut it. sometimes a gal just needs a mojito!
i was actually pretty frustrated with the whole situation a few months after moving here. i felt homesick for milwaukee, our go-to restaurants there, & our close-knit group of friends. & i even remember telling chris something along the lines of “omg if another person offers me a wine cocktail, i might DIE.”
#dramaqueen #noshameinmygame
however, my despise for faux cocktails totally changed when i tried my very first spiked cold brew coffee.
it was a springtime weekend morning, the kind of sunshiney & unseasonably warm morning that makes you happy to your core. chris & i walked, hand in hand, to a neighborhood brunch spot that was just down the block & around the corner from our old duplex.
we sat on their small shady patio & perused the menu & drink list. i remember wanting nothing more than something that would taste refreshing.
& that’s when it caught my eye: the eye-opener, a cold brew coffee spiked with dark porter beer.
once it arrived at our table, i added 2 generous splashes of cream, took my first sip, & fell in love. this porter cold brew iced coffee was perfection. the intense coffee flavor of cold brew coffee was perfectly complemented by the slightly sweet & roasty flavors of the dark porter, & the beer’s carbonation gave this porter cold brew iced coffee the perfect refreshing fizz.
at last, a perfectly balanced & perfectly craveable faux cocktail in south minneapolis.
& the best part is i’m about to save you $8 bucks a pop!
my porter cold brew iced coffee is such a simple recipe that it’s almost a non-recipe. all you need is your favorite porter & your favorite cold brew coffee.
you should still try this out even if you’re not a beer person. because to be honest, neither am i. i am, however, a major iced coffee person & the porter is such a beautiful complement to the flavors of cold brew. if you like iced coffee, i promise, you’ll love porter cold brew iced coffee.
dilute cold brew coffee over ice with equal parts porter beer. these stumptown cold brew ponies are my favorite little weekend treat (i find mine at whole foods, but i think target sells them too). & like all the beers in my life, chris picked this porter out for me. he says if you’d like to spice things up you could try a coffee porter, a vanilla porter, or even a smoked porter, & they’d pair with the cold brew beautifully.
add a few splashes of cream, if desired (ahem, you totally should). stir & admire the gorgeous creamy coffee swirls.
i die.
grab a straw & your best gal pals, & sip away on porter cold brew iced coffee all summer long.
iced coffee + beer + weekends + summer + girlfriends. what could be better than that?

WHat an idea. I’ve added Bailey’s Irish Cream to my coffee but never beer. And you have amazing photos!
thank you so much! there’s nothing i don’t like about bailey’s coffee too…soooo good!! xx
I’ve read several good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to create such a wonderful informative site.
thanks!
awesome! I wouldn’t never had thought of this! photos look gorgeous too 🙂
thanks georgie! i’d have never thought of it either had it not been for or brunch spot! hope you give it a try! xx
I would have never thought to add beer to my iced coffee but this sounds fabulous! If only there was a GF porter… but I know Pat would be way into this. I usually drink my iced coffee with a splash of almond milk and maybe some simple syrup – kinda plain but I love it! oh and I just bought an espresso maker so I’m excited to make some new drinks!
you’re going to LOVE your espresso maker. i splurged & got a nespresso maybe last winter(?) & it’s been the best. so handy, & so much more affordable than expensive lattes!
