oh yeah.
we’re going there. we’re doin’ it.
A BURRATA FREAKING CHEESE BOARD.
need i say more?
*drops the mic*
???????
i’m literally giddy with excitement to share this burrata cheese board with you today because i’ve been dreaming it up for what feels like forevvvvver.
chris & i traveled a ton between mid-april & mid-may last spring. milwaukee! london! salt lake city! we don’t typically travel that much, so it was so much fun to explore with chris & to try out a ton of new restaurants & dishes. (i’m pretty sure if you followed along on instagram, you know that i take the “research” aspect of the job v. seriously. ?)
as luck would have it, each city offered us with a new take on burrata.
(research is a v. tough job, but someone’s gotta do it right?!)
& from there? dreams of the ultimate burrata cheese board began to take place:
a trio of pillowy, creamy burrata with pesto, balsamic, & truffle oil. served up with all of the best cheese board fixings: olives, roasted red peppers, figs, prosciutto & salami. piles of good crackers.
& if you ask me? easy summer entertaining just doesn’t get better than that.
wait, what is burrata cheese, exactly?
you mean…aside from being the kind of pillowy-soft, ooey-gooey cloud of cheesy, heavenly goodness, right? ???
you can think of burrata as a thin layer of fresh mozzarella stretched around a creamy interior made of soft curd and cream. so while a ball of burrata will look a lot like a ball of fresh mozz from the outside, it’s much softer to the touch. once you cut into it, the creamy filling will ooze out.
told ya. heavenly. ???
& aside from the creamy ooey-gooey factor, burrata tastes surprisingly light. it, of course, has a wonderfully buttery taste, but it isn’t heavy or dense at all! think of how it feels to eat goat cheese &/or brie with crackers – wonderful, but a little heavy, right? not the case with burrata. it tastes super fresh.
i prefer to buy burrata from trader joe’s. they sell burrata in 8 oz containers for $3 or $4, each container holding 2 4 oz balls of burrata. you can find it next to the other mozzarellas & soft cheeses. it’s great quality, & the price cannot be beat! i also know that whole foods sells burrata, & if you have a trusted italian deli or market you love, they probably do too.
how to serve burrata cheese: build a burrata cheese board!

cheese boards will forever be my go-to party appetizer or dish to share. they’re always a hit, & they’re really easy to make:
first, the burrata:
to say i’m obsessed with the idea of serving a few different burratas on a burrata cheese board is a complete & total understatement. it’s SO easy to do, SO impressive to friends & party guests, & SOOOO delicious to devour. (that’s a win-win-win if you ask me!)
place balls of burrata on separate plates, then top them with whatever you want!
for this burrata cheese board, i went with:
- truffle. like, hellooooo, why the hell not? drizzle a tablespoon or two of truffle oil over the burrata. i find truffle oil pretty affordably at trader joe’s – like $6 or $7 a bottle! if you can’t find truffle oil, you can use the best evoo you can find (this is my fave!) & sprinkle a little truffle salt over top, which i also buy from trader joe’s. orrr, you can use truffle oil AND truffle salt, which is exactly what i did here. #extra #notmadaboutit
- pesto. specifically homemade kale pesto. (???) it has a hint of lemon that pairs perfectly with the burrata! plus, it’s a great fridge staple for the summer.
- reduced balsamic vinegar/balsamic glaze. easy peasy. you can make your own reduced balsamic pretty easily, but most stores sell balsamic glaze in a squeeze bottle next to vinegars/oils. it’s really affordable & lasts forevvver. total no-brainer!
next, the carbs.

i mean. obviously. grab whatever crackers you love. when i build a cheese board, i love picking up a variety box of crackers – you get a few types of crackers without dropping any extra $$.
you could(/should) also grill up some bread. nothing says “hello please eat this” like a pile of grilled bread & burrata.
trust.
last, the munchies:
add on in whatever extra little snacks you love most on any cheese board! for example:
- prosciutto
- sopressata
- a variety of olives
- capers
- cherry tomatoes
- figs
- pickled sweet peppers
- & so on…

Description
the ultimate burrata cheese board!!! this burrata cheese board has burrata three ways (truffle! balsamic! pesto!) & served alongside all the best cheese board snacks. the perfect easy & totally impressive party snack or dish to share whenever you’re entertaining!
Ingredients
for truffle burrata:
- 1 4-oz ball burrata
- 1–2 tablespoons truffle oil (or very good extra virgin olive oil)
- a generous pinch truffle salt (or flaky sea salt)
for pesto burrata
- 1 4-oz ball burrata
- 1–2 tablespoons pesto
for balsamic burrata:
- 1 4-oz ball burrata
- 1–2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
crackers & breads of choice:
- multigrain or seedy crackers
- grilled Italian bread
- pita chips
- etc.
munchies of choice:
- prosciutto
- sopressata
- a variety of olives
- capers
- cherry tomatoes
- figs
- pickled sweet peppers
- etc.
Instructions
- Prep the burrata: Using a paper towel, pat each ball of burrata as dry as possible, then set onto individual small plates. Top as desired with truffle oil, pesto, reduced balsamic/balsamic glaze, or another topping of choice. You really can’t go wrong! Arrange the burrata on your favorite serving dish or cheese board.
- Arrange the cheese board: Arrange the meats, fruits, veggies, crackers, bread, &/or nuts around the prepared burrata. You can place things in small dishes or jars, or arrange them right on the cheese board itself. I find it’s easiest to start with the largest components, then fill in the extra spaces throughout the board with the smaller components. Have fun with it! Enjoy!
Notes
- This is really just a wireframe. An ultimate burrata cheese board will have any number of these components, but feel free to have fun with it & add in your ultimate cheese board faves!!
- Truffle oil & truffle salt are a little bougie & can be hard to find. I buy mine, affordably, from Trader Joe’s. You can also order them online. This truffle oil & this truffle salt have great reviews!
- Balsamic glaze is really similar to reduced balsamic. It’s slightly sweet and has a great syrupy texture. I love the one that Trader Joe’s sells, but you can find some sort of balsamic glaze in a squeeze bottle near the vinegars and oils in most grocery stores. If you want to make your own reduced balsamic at home, simply add a nicely aged balsamic vinegar to a saucepan over medium-low heat and simmer, stirring often, until it has reduced by half.
