boy oh boy, do i have the perfect cozy autumn cocktail for you today. we’re talkin…bourbon old fashioneds sweetened ever-so-slightly with homemade sweet potato simple syrup(!!!!).

one of my dearest blogging friends, ellie, invited me to create a delicious cocktail post for her site while she’s on vacation. ellie & i actually went to college together at marquette. we hung out in different groups, but we recognized each other as soon as we crossed paths in the blogging world post-grad. ellie posts the most amazing wholesome, paleo recipes on hungry by nature, but always leaves room for an occasional cocktail recipe.

& soon as she asked me to guest post this month’s cocktail recipe, i knew that cozy bourbon old fashioneds with sweet potato simple syrup needed to happen. growing up in the northwoods, cool weather & old fashioneds go hand-in-hand. this recipe adds a little modern edge to the classic. they’re inspired by a similar cocktail chris & i had last winter at our favorite cozy date night spot in minneapolis. ever since, i’ve been obsessed with recreating those cocktails for a cozy date night at home.

& as a bonus, the fact that these babies have sweet potato in them (via a ridiculously easy simple syrup that’s ridiculously loaded with fall flavor) preeeetty much makes these cocktails a salad, ya feel me?

i envision you sipping on these cozy bourbon old fashioneds on a chilly friday night (wearing your coziest sweater & warmest slippers, of course!) snuggled up on your comfy sofa next to your boo thang (with something mindless & entertaining on netflix, of course!), while the worries & stressors from the work week melt away into the background & you immerse yourself into a blissful moment of weekend r&r.
