anyone else?!
it’s no secret that i looooove farmer’s markets. like to-the-depths-of-my-soul levels of loving. here in minnesota there are only a few months out of the year that we have farmer’s market produce readily available to us & getting fresh, locally grown fruits & veggies is such a treat.
but when it comes down to it, i just love the experience of going to the farmer’s market. waking up early on a saturday or sunday morning, grabbing a cup of coffee from my favorite coffee shop, & perusing countless stands of gorgeous locally-produced goodies. the sense of community is like none other.
in fact, joining a csa has been on my bucket list for the last 5 years, but i just can’t bring myself to doing it because we wouldn’t need to frequent our farmer’s markets anymore. you know what i mean?
what you can find in my farmer’s market bag totally varies based on the farmer’s market i’m at. if i’m at my neighborhood’s small farmer’s market, you can usually find me leaving with a bag of fresh lavender (& maybe an ahi tuna sushi hand roll). if i’m at the kcc farmer’s market in hawaii, you know i’m there for a bag of granola & sushi sliders. if i’m at my favorite farmer’s market in the universe, you’ll find me with a big bag of morel mushrooms & some hot spicy cheese bread (& probably some cheese curds).
but if i’m truly going for a grocery stock up, i’ll leave with tons of fresh fruits & veggies.
heirloom tomatoes (big ones for capreses, little ones for errthang else), cucumbers, zucchini, kale, mint, basil, spinach, peppers of every color & variety, corn, peaches, apples, snap peas, wax beans…the list truly goes on & on.
oh, & flowers. you can’t forget about farmer’s market flowers!
(& maybe a pie. to the sweet little old ladies schlepping out pies at farmer’s markets, you 100% have my heart.)
